Sarah & Matt got married on a beautiful Friday afternoon at Cherrydale Baptist Church in Arlington, Virginia and had their modified reception in downtown Washington D.C. at the Viceroy Hotel. We definitely had our challenges leading up to the big day, but in the end their wedding day went so beautifully that it was genuinely a blessing from God!

Wedding Planning

When we booked in 2020, we were super optimistic about their wedding plans for late March 2021. They were originally supposed to have a big reception at the Willard Hotel in Washington D.C. (fairytale dreams, am I right?!) but as we neared the end of 2020 and into 2021 we ended up having to pivot and change plans due to Covid regulations in D.C.

Their wedding planner Alisha helped them pivot seemingly effortlessly toward a micro wedding a little bit earlier in March, with a big reception TBD in 2022! But then between Covid regulations and the dreaded Capitol riots, the location options for their engagement session got fewer and fewer. I ended up reserving two hours at the Larz Anderson House in downtown Washington D.C. and it was perfect!! We had the entire house to ourselves and recreated a joyful Cinderella moment for Sarah and Matt. The architecture of the house is similar to the interior of the Willard Hotel, so it was a little nod to the reception they didn’t get to have this year.

The Big Day

Leading up to their wedding, the forecast kept saying it would be a cold, steady downpour for the entire day. I made alternate plans to ensure gorgeous portraits either way, and when I showed up to the girls’ getting ready house IT. WAS. SUNNY!

And it stayed sunny the entire day! Their wedding portraits are some of my favorite images I’ve ever taken!

I could also speak for hours on just how genuine and sweet Sarah and Matt are, but I think you can tell from their portraits. It’s not every day you meet clients that you genuinely become friends with, and I can’t wait to see how their marriage unfolds. If it’s half as blessed as their wedding day, it will be beautiful indeed!
